Tanzila Khatun, a graduate of the Department of Life Sciences at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has begun the Environmental Contamination and Toxicology+ (ECT+) One Health Master’s Program in France and Spain under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJM) Scholarship for the Fall 2026 intake.
Funded by the European Union, the fully funded two-year program covers tuition fees and accommodation and includes academic mobility between Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour in France and the University of the Basque Country in Spain. Tanzila began the program on September 1, 2026.
The ECT+ One Health Master’s Program focuses on environmental contamination and toxicology through the One Health approach, covering environmental toxicology, ecotoxicology, and related areas connecting environmental factors, ecosystems, and human and animal health. The program includes academic study at participating institutions in France and Spain as part of its mobility structure.
Tanzila completed her undergraduate studies at IUB in the Spring 2025 semester and received her degree at the university’s 26th Convocation in January 2026. Her academic work at IUB included research related to environmental contamination and bioremediation, which contributed to her interest in pursuing further study in environmental toxicology and One Health.
For her bachelor’s thesis, Tanzila worked under the supervision of Dr. Sabrina M. Elias on the isolation and characterization of a biosurfactant-producing bacterium from hydrocarbon-contaminated water. The research examined biosurfactants in relation to environmental pollutants and their potential applications, providing a foundation for Khatun’s continued academic interest in environmental contamination, toxicology, and bioremediation.
Tanzila said the ECT+ One Health Program aligns with her bachelor’s research and academic interests. She plans to continue pursuing research and build a long-term career in environmental contamination, toxicology, bioremediation, and One Health.
