Psycho-Social Counseling Center’s workshop focuses on mental health and wellbeing

The Psycho-Social Counseling Center and the School of Pharmacy and Public Health of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a workshop titled “Flourish: Thriving Through the Challenges of Student Life” on May 18, 2026.
The program addressed anxiety, depression, stress, and academic, emotional, and personal challenges faced by students through discussion and counseling-based guidance. The objective of the workshop was to help students face the challenges of university life with confidence and support their academic and personal development. It was hosted by Md. Yeasin, Counselor, Psycho-Social Counseling Center. Lt. Col. Isteag Ahammad (Retd), Deputy Director and Head, Facilities and Protocol, delivered the opening remarks.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Tamim discussed the different forms of anxiety experienced at various stages of life, including academic pressure, relationships, and future concerns faced by students. He said the session was organized to support students in addressing challenges in their personal and academic lives.
Prof. Dr. Daniel W. Lund, Pro-Vice Chancellor, attended the program as Special Guest. Dr. Kamran ul Baset, PhD, Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Public Health, delivered the vote of thanks.
The main session was conducted by Dr. Mahjabeen Haque, Professor, Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology and Director, Student Counselling and Guidance Office, TSC, University of Dhaka. Dr. Haque discussed students’ mental wellbeing, effective coping strategies, and approaches to managing stress and anxiety in both academic and personal settings.
Among others present were Brig. Gen. Ridwan-Al-Mahmood (Retd), Director, Office of the Director-Administration; Tania Sultana, Counselor, Psycho-Social Counseling Center, along with faculty members, staff, and students.
