The School of Law of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized the “3rd IUB Undergraduate Law Students’ Research Conference” on May 7-8, 2026, with participation from 20 universities across Bangladesh.

The conference focused on contemporary legal issues through research paper presentations and panel evaluations. A total of 56 papers were submitted by students from 8 public and 12 private universities, of which 40 papers were selected for presentation in 10 sessions. The papers presented covered topics such as structural discrimination, cyber law, artificial intelligence, environmental crises, constitutional reform, stray animal protection, and digital rights.

Prof. Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan, Advisor to the School of Law, attended the inaugural session as chief guest. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, Head of the Department of Law, delivered the welcome address. Dean of the School of Law Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuian also spoke during the session.

Panelists included Prof. Dr. Rumana Islam and Dr. Taslima Yasmin from the University of Dhaka; Prof. Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam from North South University; Dr. Robayet Ferdous Syed from American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB); Dr. Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub from East West University; Dr. Afroza Bilkis from the Bangladesh Competition Commission.

IUB was represented by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Awal Khan, Prof. Dr. Assaduzzaman, Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman, Dr. Hassan Al Imran, Dr. Liton Chandra Biswas, Dr. Md. Monjur Hasan, and Dr. Md. Toriqul Islam.

The panelists evaluated the papers based on analytical depth, organization, presentation, use of visual aids, time management, and responses during question-and-answer sessions. All participants received certificates of participation while 10 participants received recognition for outstanding papers.

Students who were recognized included Md. Ashifuzzaman Anik (University of Dhaka); Md. Ibrahim Khalilullah (State University of Bangladesh); Nurshalin Islam Shifat (Bangladesh University of Business and Technology); Tanvir Ahmed Tusher (Noakhali Science and Technology University); Razwan Ahmed (University of Asia Pacific); Naima Sultana Anika (University of Dhaka); Sushmita Protimo Ghosh Puja (IUB); Sanjida Armin Meem (Gopalganj Science and Technology University); Md. Shuvo Zaman Shanto (Eastern University); and Afrida Anwar from (IUB).

IUB Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Daniel W. Lund attended the closing ceremony. The conference concluded with remarks from Conference Convenor Prof. Dr. Jahid Hossain Bhuiyan.
