EEE Department links seminar series to new Mega Quiz Competition

Published : 28 June 2026

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in collaboration with the IEEE IUB Student Branch, held its EEE Seminar Series 2026 and introduced the department's first Mega Quiz Competition in June 2026, a new format that ties seminar attendance to a graded assessment.

The quiz tested participants on the technical content of the seminars, requiring students to engage actively with the talks and retain what was presented rather than attend passively. The department introduced the format to reward close attention during technical sessions and to reinforce the material afterwards.

The seminar series was held on June 17, 18, and 20, 2026, and covered micro and nanotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence, and Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's scholarships. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Abrar Jawad Haque, an alumnus of the Department of EEE and an EU Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Researcher in Physics at the University of Hamburg, Germany; Dr. Kh Shahriya Zaman, Assistant Professor in the Department of EEE; and Mr. Mahdi Islam, Lecturer in the Department of EEE. The program was initiated under the leadership of Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Head of the Department of EEE, to integrate seminar participation with structured academic assessment.

Participants took the Mega Quiz Competition on June 25, 2026. The test consisted of concept-based and application-oriented multiple-choice questions drawn from the seminar content and carried a total prize pool of BDT 30,000.

Results were announced during an award ceremony the same day through the IUB Digital Classroom. All participants received certificates of participation, and the department recognized the top performers in each seminar category.

In the "Micro/Nano Technology: From Silicon MEMS to Nanofluidic Biosensors – A Cleanroom Fabrication Journey" category, Siam Alam placed first, followed by Abyaz Karim, Mst. Nowshin Jahan, and Jannatun Ferdoushi.

In the "Understanding Robotics: Concepts, Applications & Opportunities" category, Kallyen Kumar Tirtho placed first, followed by Istheak Ahammed, Md. Tanvir Ahsan Ankon, and Md. Habibur Rahman.

In the "A Road to Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters & Scholarship" category, Mst. Nowshin Jahan Borsha placed first, followed by Md. Rashedul Islam, Rafiatun Islam, and Md. Radwan Kabir.

The programme was coordinated by the IEEE IUB Student Branch under the leadership of its Chairperson, Md. Arifur Rahman, with support from the executive committee and volunteers. Md. Mosiur Rahman Shadhin, an alumnus of the Department of EEE, contributed to the planning and logistics.

The seminar series was open to all IUB students. The department plans to continue the Mega Quiz Competition in future seminar series to encourage students to review, understand, and apply the knowledge presented.
