SLASS student twins receive Film for Change 2026 incubation grant

Published : 25 February 2026

Two students from the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (SLASS) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) have received the prestigious Film for Change 2026 grant. They are Riasat Salekin (Media and Communication major and Anthropology minor) and Sayrat Salekin (Anthropology major and Media and Communication minor).

Film for Change 2026 is a national film incubation initiative launched by CinemaScope, the film apprenticeship program of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), in collaboration with Oxfam in Bangladesh, to support emerging filmmakers through production funding, mentorship, and technical guidance for socially engaged filmmaking.

The incubation initiative supports film projects addressing themes including social justice, climate resilience, and economic inequality through structured incubation and guided production development.

Riasat and Sayrat are twin brothers. Their project, The Hanging Gardens of Bancharam, has received a production grant of up to BDT 100,000. In addition, they will also receive mentorship and technical support from industry professionals and academics under the program.

Their selection reflects ongoing academic engagement within IUB's Department of Media and Communication in practice-based media education and interdisciplinary storytelling aligned with socially relevant communication practices.
