Prof. Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan, Advisor to the Department of Law at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has been elected President of the Asian Society of International Law (AsianSIL). 

Prof. Khan’s election to the prestigious position came on November 14, 2025, during AsianSIL’s 10th General Meeting, which was held as part of the organization’s scheduled leadership elections to guide its work on regional international legal issues. The election was conducted through AsianSIL’s standard voting procedure during the meeting.

AsianSIL, established in 2007, is a regional platform for international law scholarship and professional engagement across Asia. Its past Presidents include Professor Owada Hisashi, Xue Hanqin, Professor Surakiat Sathirathai, and Paik Jin-Hyun.

The meeting also elected Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuian, Dean of the School of Law at IUB, and Dr. Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, Head of the Department of Law at IUB, to the AsianSIL Executive Council for two years. 

Prof. Dr. Bhuian will serve as one of the organization’s Vice-Presidents. Their responsibilities will include contributing to AsianSIL’s academic and administrative activities through participation in its council proceedings.
