Skill mapping exercise addresses industry expectations, academic preparedness

The Department of General Management at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a "Skill Mapping Exercise and Adaptation Planning" session to address industry expectations and academic preparedness. The event brought together industry leaders, faculty members, and students for discussions on essential competencies required in the evolving job market.
Prof. Dr. Md. Mamun Habib, Head of the Department of General Management, presided over the session. Prof. Dr. Raisul Awal Mahmood, Acting Dean of IUB’s School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE), opened the event with a welcome address. The session covered academic qualifications, technical expertise, and soft skills, with industry professionals sharing insights on workplace readiness.
Zahin Rasul from BRAC Bank spoke on behavioral competency and conflict resolution. Mohammad Rana Mirza, from ICDDRB, discussed soft skills, ethical awareness, and leadership. A K M Nurol Huda, independent energy consultant, emphasized critical thinking, digital literacy, and industry-specific expertise. Farhan Shahriar, international development expert, highlighted the need for guest lectures and industry collaborations to provide students with real-world exposure.
Md Newaz Osman from Spectra Studios addressed post-pandemic productivity challenges. Mohammad Mamun Chowdhury from Rahimafrooz, spoke on time management, teamwork, and career planning. Nowsheen Tabassum from Robi outlined strategies for building a strong LinkedIn presence and refining interview skills. Raoshon Ali Bulbul from Walton discussed stress management and personal skill development. Tasmiya Hasan Mim from Meghna Executive Holdings emphasized career planning and professional commitment.
Concluding the session, Prof. Habib encouraged industry professionals to contribute to course curriculum enrichment and serve as guest lecturers. He thanked faculty members, industry experts, and volunteers for their contributions, reaffirming SBE’s commitment to strengthening industry-academia collaboration. Dr. Humyun Fuad Rahman, Assistant Professor of General Management, delivered the vote of thanks.
