IUB Squash Coach Monika secures 3rd place in 6th Bangladesh International Squash Open 2025

Marjan Akter Monika, Coach of the IUB Squash Team, has secured the 3rd place in the 6th Bangladesh International Squash Open 2025. The tournament was organized by Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation in Dhaka from July 26-29, 2025.

Monika was also named the best female player from Bangladesh. Riyajul Zannat Urdho, a student of Computer Science and Engineering at IUB, also competed in the tournament as part of the national contingent. This is the first time Bangladesh fielded a national women’s squash team in an international tournament.

The tournament featured international players from Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Kuwait, India, and Sri Lanka and included two parallel competitions: the Men’s PSA Challenger Tour 2025 and the Women’s WSF & PSA Satellite Tournament 2025.

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) served as the official venue partner for the Women’s WSF & PSA Satellite Tournament 2025, hosting all women’s matches at its Squash Court, while the men’s matches were held at the Army Squash Complex.

Malaysia’s Vinika Saini won the women’s event defeating her sister Vartika Saini in the final. In the men’s event, Iran’s Seper won the championship, beating Kuwait’s Bader Almagabi in the final match.

The closing and prize-giving ceremony was held on July 29, 2025, at the Army Squash Complex in Dhaka Cantonment. Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman attended as the Chief Guest and handed the prizes to the winners. Rashed Chowdhury, Member, Board of Trustees, IUB; was also present at the program alongside several senior army officials and members of the media.

The event was led by the Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation, under the leadership of Federation President and Engineer-in-Chief of the Army, Major General Md Hasan-Uz-Zaman. The tournament, sponsored by RFL and ACI, was held with approvals from the Bangladesh government, World Squash Federation (WSF), and the Professional Squash Association (PSA).
