IHRS-Prime Bank seminar focuses on financial inclusion

The Independent HR Society (IHRS) and Prime Bank PLC organized a seminar titled “Financial Inclusion: Engaging and Inspiring Youth in Banking” on July 21, 2025, at the DMK Lecture Gallery of IUB. The seminar introduced university students to financial literacy, inclusive banking, and career readiness through expert talks and participatory engagement.
The session featured speakers from IUB faculty and Prime Bank senior leadership. Dr. Ikramul Hasan, Head of the Department of Human Resource Management at IUB, emphasized focused career planning. He said, “Career is the biggest word in your life. If you are passionate and dedicated, opportunities like this platform can shape your future in the banking industry.”
Prof. Daniel W. Lund, Pro-Vice Chancellor of IUB, spoke on the evolution of HR in driving productivity. He said, “If you treat people well and look after their needs, it is more likely that they become more productive – that’s the essence of effective HR.”
From Prime Bank, Shaila Abedin, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Liability, Consumer and SME Banking Division, discussed the institution’s engagement with youth. She said, “Youth leadership is critical to national development. We are here not only to share but also to listen – to understand your vision for the future of banking.”
M. M. Mahbub Hasan, Senior Vice President and Head of Financial Inclusion and School Banking, Consumer and SME Banking Division, introduced Prime Academia, a platform for institutional partnerships and early career guidance. He said, “Money management is a lifelong process. Start early, save smart, and plan ahead for your future.”
Nazeem A Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director, Head of Consumer and SME Banking Division of Prime Bank, delivered a talk emphasizing adaptability and evolving career skills. He said, “A degree gets you to the interview, but it's your adaptability, skills, and mindset that shape your career. Banking today is not just about transactions, it's about transforming lives, embracing digital innovation, and growing with purpose in a sector that rewards resilience, ethics, and passion.”
The session included a Q&A segment where five student questions were addressed by the speakers. The student whose question was selected as the best received a token of appreciation from Prime Bank. A group presentation competition was also held. The winning team received the award from Shaila Abedin and Mahbub Hasan. Certificates of participation were issued by Prime Bank to all attendees.
As part of mutual appreciation, IHRS presented tokens of recognition to all the guests from Prime Bank PLC. The crests were handed over by Dr. Ikramul Hasan; Abdullah Al Ahad, Lecturer, HRM; Nabila Kamal Promy; and Effat Binte Kabir, Lecturer, HRM and Club Coordinator, IHRS. In return, Prime Bank representatives presented tokens of appreciation to IUB faculty members.
