IUB hosts final Green Day Training for National Earth Olympiad 2025 in China

The Department of Environmental Science and Management of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) hosted the final Green Day Training (GDT) session of the National Earth Olympiad (NEO) 2025 on July 1, 2025, at the IUB campus in Dhaka. The daylong event brought together 92 participants, primarily from the Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions, with some participants from other regions, as part of a nationwide training initiative aimed at promoting earth and environmental science education in Bangladesh.
This session followed earlier GDT events conducted across six divisions: Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Rangpur, Khulna, and Dhaka. The training at IUB was facilitated by the management team of the Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI). The program consisted of structured sessions and concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
Dr. K. Ayaz Rabbani, Dean of Environmental and Life Sciences at IUB; Prof. Dr. Md. Hafizur Rahman, Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Management; and Ms. Fareba Naz Shaule, Deputy Head of Sustainable Finance Unit at Prime Bank PLC, handed over certificates to the trainees.
The NEO 2025 cycle will continue with a team selection test to finalize the four-member team that will represent Bangladesh at the International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) scheduled to be held at Ji'ning Confucius School, Shandong, China, on August 7 to 17, 2025. National round toppers will undergo additional training in preparation for the international competition.
The National Earth Olympiad (NEO) is organized annually by BYEI, with Prime Bank PLC as the 2025 Training Partner. Strategic and knowledge partners include IUB’s Department of Environmental Science and Management, the Department of Geology at the University of Dhaka, and the Bangladesh Geological Society.
