Women make up 65% of awardees at IUB’s Academic Awards Ceremony 2025

Published : 06 December 2025

Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized the Academic Awards Ceremony 2025 on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the university auditorium, recognizing students for outstanding academic performance up to the Autumn 2024 semester.

Students were honored under five merit categories based on sustained academic excellence. The Vice Chancellor’s Honour List includes those who achieved a CGPA of 3.86 or higher for three consecutive semesters, while the Vice Chancellor’s List recognises students maintaining a CGPA of at least 3.50 over the same period. To qualify for the Dean’s Honour List, students must secure a CGPA of 3.76 or above in two successive semesters, and the Dean’s Merit List includes those maintaining a minimum CGPA of 3.50 for two consecutive semesters. Students earning a CGPA above 3.50 in any single semester are placed on the Dean’s List. A student may qualify for more than one list.

All awardees received certificates. Students who make the Vice Chancellor’s Honor List and Dean’s Honor List receive cash prize of BDT 10,000 and BDT 5,000 respectively.

A total of 1,310 students earned places on the merit lists in Autumn 2024, representing 12% of the student body. This figure marks a continued rise from previous semesters – 1,109 awardees (11%) in Summer 2024 and 974 awardees (10%) in Spring 2024 – reflecting consistent growth in both the number and proportion of high-performing students. Notably, women accounted for 65% of this year’s award recipients.

Chairman of the IUB Board of Trustees Didar A. Husain, Trustee Towhid Samad, Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Tamim, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel W. Lund, and Registrar Asif Parvez addressed the ceremony. Trustee Ismail Dobash, Trustee Dr. Husne Ara Ali, Treasurer Khandker Md.
