Students from 24 universities participate in the 2nd IUB Undergraduate Law Students' Research Conference

The School of Law at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized the 2nd IUB Undergraduate Law Students' Research Conference on April 17–18, 2025 on campus, where undergraduate law students presented research on contemporary legal issues. A total of 40 students from 24 universities participated by submitting individual research papers that addressed various issues including discrimination, cyber law, artificial intelligence, refugee crises, wildlife protection, quota reforms, and Indigenous rights.
The conference commenced with an inaugural session chaired by IUB Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Tamim. His opening remarks emphasized the need for continuous research in the legal profession. The Head of the Department of Law, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, welcomed the audience, followed by the Dean of the School of Law, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuian. Law Commission member, Professor Dr. Naima Huq, delivered the keynote address as the Chief Guest and discussed approaches to legal research.
The panelists included Prof. Dr. Rumana Islam and Dr. Taslima Yasmin from the University of Dhaka; Prof. Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam from North South University; Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky from the University of Asia Pacific; Dr. Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub from East West University; Dr. Afroza Bilkis from the Bangladesh Competition Commission.
From IUB, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Awal Khan, Prof. Dr. Assaduzzaman, Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman, Dr. Hassan Al Imran, Dr. Liton Chandra Biswas, Dr. Md. Monjur Hasan, and Dr. Md. Toriqul Islam took part in the panel. They evaluated the presentations based on content clarity, delivery, visual aids, time management, and responsiveness during Q&A sessions.
Ten participants received special recognition for outstanding papers, including Rezoan Asraf, University of Dhaka; Satirtha Chakma, Bangladesh University of Professionals; Zahid Hasan Reyad, Feni University; Md. Zobail Al-Rajoan, Gopalganj Science and Technology University; Md. Al Nahian Bin Ratan, Green University of Bangladesh; Tanjim Maliha, East West University; Md. Emtiaz Hussain, University of Chittagong; Mahmuda Islam Jui, Notre Dame University Bangladesh; Nurshalin Islam Shifat, Bangladesh University of Business and Technology; and Md. Kowshik Shahriar, North South University. They were awarded crests and cash prizes.
IUB Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel W. Lund, applauded the School of Law for facilitating intellectual energy and critical thinking through the conference during the closing ceremony. The event concluded with closing remarks from the conference convenor, Professor Dr. Md. Jahid Hossain Bhuiyan, who expressed thanks to the organizing team, participants, external evaluators, panelists, volunteers, and faculty members.
