Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) welcomed the Bengali New Year 1432 on April 14, 2025 through a daylong event at its Bashundhara campus. Organised by the Division of Student Activities (DoSA), the celebration included cultural performances, a traditional fair, and a two-day theatre festival. The Boishakhi fair took place from 13 to 15 April, while theatre performances were held on 13 and 14 April.
The theatre festival began on April 13 at 11am with IUB Theatre’s production of Taasher Desh. Jahangirnagar Theatre staged Ditiyo Mrittur Agey at 4pm the same day. On April 14, Teerondaz Repertory performed Konthonalite Shurjo at 1 pm, followed by BotTala’s staging of Khona at 4 pm. All the plays were staged at the IUB Auditorium.
The fair featured stalls offering traditional foods such as chotpoti, fuchka, panta-ilish, bhorta, and other festive snacks. Some stalls displayed floral arrangements, handmade jewellery, and traditional clothing. Participants included both external vendors and student entrepreneurs.
Cultural performances by the IUB Music Club and IUB Dance Club were held on the morning of April 14. The IUB Arts Club led the decoration efforts, covering the campus with alpana, painted artwork, and Boishakhi-themed installations. Independent Photography Club was the photography and videography partner for the event.
Chairman of IUB’s Board of Trustees Didar A Husain, Vice Chancellor Prof. M. Tamim, and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Daniel W. Lund formally inaugurated the event. Ashraful Amin, Director of Council Affairs, and Atif M. Safi, Head of DoSA, were also present.
Faculty members, administrative staff, students, alumni, and their families also joined the celebrations. The nagordola – a traditional manually operated ferris wheel – remained active during the fair, drawing participation across age groups. The three-day event concluded on April 15.
