School of Law's inaugural Set Speech Competition highlights the importance of judicial independence

The School of Law of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized the preliminary and final rounds of the inaugural Intra-School Set Speech Competition on November 14 and 19, 2024 respectively.
Asfi Fatima emerged as the champion of the competition, followed by Farhana Kamal Jame as the first runner-up and Lokman Shariar as the second runner-up. All of them are students of Law at IUB.
The preliminary round took place at the Moot Court Room, while the final round was held in the Multipurpose Hall. The event brought together 25 participants who presented speeches on Judicial Independence in Bangladesh.
In the preliminary round, participants demonstrated their understanding of judicial independence and its implications for the legal system in Bangladesh. After a rigorous screening process, the top 10 participants advanced to the final round.
The final round saw presentations from the participants and was attended by the Acting Vice Chancellor of IUB, Khandker Md. Iftekhar Haider, who served as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, the Acting Vice Chancellor emphasized the critical need for efforts to ensure the continued practice of judicial independence in Bangladesh.
The event was coordinated by Anisur Rahman, PhD, Associate Professor in the Department of Law of IUB. The final round was judged by Assaduzzaman Khan, PhD, Professor in the Department of Law; Md Jahid Hossain Bhuiyan, PhD, Professor; and Hassan Faruk Al Imran, PhD, Associate Professor. The judges assessed the speeches based on the participants' analytical depth, articulation, and engagement with the theme.
