Afnan Yusuf, Lecturer in the Department of Management at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), received an esteemed international research grant under the 2024-2025 Going Global Partnerships – Gender Equality Funding Grant in November 2024.
The project, titled "Bridging the Gender Gap in Healthcare: Addressing Disparities in Career Progression and Aspirations Among Women in Healthcare Professions in Bangladesh," is a collaboration with Kenisha Linton-Williams, Associate Professor at the University of Greenwich, UK.
Funded by the British Council with a grant of £25,000, the research aims to address challenges faced by women in the healthcare sector, particularly in career progression and specialisation. It will examine the factors contributing to underrepresentation in certain medical fields and explore actionable solutions to ensure broader opportunities for women across all disciplines.
As Principal Investigator, Afnan Yusuf will oversee data collection, engage with stakeholders to ensure actionable outcomes for this project set to begin in January 2025 and write the report. By uncovering gender disparities in healthcare career progression, the project aims to influence institutional policies that promote gender equity.
The findings are expected to shape future workforce policies and inspire similar initiatives across sectors, advancing societal change. This research has the potential to advance sustainable collaboration, driving progress toward equitable career opportunities and inclusive workplaces within the healthcare industry.
