EEE organizes Freshers' Day Spring 2025 to welcome new students

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in collaboration with the IEEE IUB Student Branch, hosted the EEE Freshers’ Day Spring 2025 on February 19, 2025, at the IUB Auditorium. The event welcomed the new batch of students with cultural performances, competitions, and special announcements.
The program opened with the National Anthem, followed by an introduction to the IUB FormulaE project on electric vehicles by Project Lead Md. Imtiaz Abedin. The inauguration ceremony commenced with Prof. M. Tamim, Vice Chancellor of IUB, as the Chief Guest. Prof. Tamim shared reflections on his student life and offered guidance on navigating their academic journey at IUB.
Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Head of the Department of EEE, led the event, with Dr. Habib Bin Muzaffar, Acting Dean of the School of Engineering, Technology, and Sciences, attending as the Special Guest. Faculty members and staff of the EEE Department were also present. The program was hosted by EEE Department students Md. Mosiur Rahman Shadhin, Erisha Shibib, and Rifah Nova.
The event included an Ad-Making Competition with participation of students from different departments. The evening also saw the presentation of the Inspiring Award, initiated by Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, recognizing contributions to research, innovation, leadership, and humanitarian work. Prof. M. Tamim presented the awards to the winners of the different segments.
Siam Ibne Masud was recognized for leading IUB’s team to win the Gold Award in the Efficiency for Access Design Challenge 2022-2023 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Khosru Mohammad Salim. His leadership earned him a fellowship to COP28 in Dubai as a Youth Ambassador, where he represented IUB and advocated for energy-efficient off-grid solutions.
Saima Tasfia Roja and Sayem Bin Rafique were honored for their achievements in research and innovation under the supervision of Dr. Md. Kafiul Islam, with a conference paper published at ICEEICT 2024 and an abstract presented at IEEE CS BDC Symposium 2024. They won competitions including One Minute Thesis Presentation at MIST, Project Showcasing at TECHFEST 2023, and the Final Year Design Project (FYDP) Poster Presentation that was judged by Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) Members of the EEE Department.
Md. Imtiaz Abedin was recognized for leading the IUB FormulaE project under the supervision of Prof. Khosru. Abyaz Karim, A F M Afnan Uzzaman Sheikh, and Sajid Ahmed Chowdhury were awarded for publishing three SCOPUS-indexed conference papers at IEEE-sponsored conferences in 2024 under the supervision of Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury.
Tanvir Al Radoen, Yeah Yea Hossain Dip, and Md. Arifur Rahman were acknowledged for their contributions to flood relief distribution in August 2024 in inland inaccessible areas in Noakhali, as well as their involvement in the EEE Department’s outreach programs.
Sauharda Sarkar, a student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, was recognized for his contributions to the EEE Department’s outreach efforts as a graphic designer.
Emranul Haque, Lecturer in the Department of EEE, was recognized for publishing a Q1 journal paper in the IEEE Sensors Journal on numerical analysis of a photonic crystal fiber-based biosensor for glucose level detection. Nazus Sakib, R&D Officer of the EEE Department, won the award for the Best Presentation at ICCIT 2024. Salsabil Shama, Office Manager of the EEE Department, was recognized for her administrative contributions.
The event concluded with a cultural segment that featured dance and musical performances by students of the EEE Department and a showcase by the IUB Dance Club. FOLKSTORM - Fusion Rock Band performed as the Cultural Partner of the event. The announcement of the new IEEE IUB Student Branch Executive Committee for 2025-2026 marked a leadership transition within IEEE IUB Student Branch.
