Published : 18 February 2025

The Department of Environmental Science and Management at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a seminar titled "Climate Finance for Resilience and Equity: Understanding How Funding Decisions Shape Adaptation on the Ground" on February 14, 2025.

The seminar featured remarks from Professor Dr. Md Hafizur Rahman, Head of the Department, and Dr. Laura Kuhl, Associate Professor at Northeastern University, USA, who conducted the session. The event focused on how climate finance can influence resilience and equity in adaptation efforts.

Dr. Kuhl’s presentation explored the intersections of social, racial, and environmental injustices in climate responses, introducing the concept of "Triple Injustice." She highlighted that the most vulnerable populations, though least responsible for climate change, are most affected and least able to adapt.

The seminar was aimed at Master’s students specializing in Climate Change and Development and Environmental Management. Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director of PKSF; and Mr. A. K. M. Sohel, Additional Secretary and Wing Chief at the United Nations, also attended the seminar. They expressed interest in future collaboration with the Department of Environmental Science and Management, presenting an opportunity for impactful climate action and research.

The seminar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing attendees to discuss strategies for enhancing the role of climate finance in promoting equity and resilience.
