IHRS and HSBC Offer Internship Placement to IUB Students

Published : 21 May 2024

The Independent HR Society (IHRS) partnered with HSBC Bangladesh for a seminar on May 20, 2024 to present a six-month paid internship opportunity to the final-year undergraduate students of IUB. The Seminar, titled “Student Work Placement Internship Program” was held at the IUB Multipurpose Hall.

Organized by IHRS, the event was supported by the club’s Faculty Advisor Abdullah Al Ahad, Lecturer, Department of Human Resources Management (HRM). Ikramul Hasan, PhD, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of HRM, delivered the opening remarks.

The internship program is a six-month paid placement, with HSBC receiving around 1,400 applications nationwide. Each cohort offers around 20-21 spots, with the current call for the July intake. The assessment process includes four stages: initial application sorting; a mandatory Values Assessment for all HSBC recruits; interviews for shortlisted candidates; and final pre-employment vetting.

The program aims to recruit interns for potential full-time employment at HSBC, bypassing the usual lengthier recruitment process. Interns receive recommendation and experience letters upon completion.

During the event, HSBC conducted an interactive quiz session with students, where the top five scorers bypassed the initial assessment stage, advancing directly to the Values Assessment stage. Students not meeting the eligibility criteria for the July Cohort were encouraged to apply for the January Cohort or future intakes.

HSBC officials who spoke at the event included IUB alum Sajjadur Rahman, Head of Wholesale Operations, Digital Business Services; former IUB HRM faculty Sabin Rahman, Senior Vice President, Learning, Talent, Talent Acquisition and Organisation Development; and Tanzid Samad Choudhury, Officer, Talent Acquisition. The event concluded with IHRS presenting crests and gifts to the HSBC guests.

Registration for the program ended on May 20 at 12:00 midnight. Eligibility requirements include full-time availability from July 2024 to January 2025, graduation by July 2024, completion of all academic requirements except the internship course, well-developed communication skills, and proficiency in PowerPoint, MS Excel, and MS Word.

The masters of Ceremony of the event were SBE students Abdur Rahman Adib, 4th semester, General Management Department, and Faria Binte Firoz Prizin, 7th semester, Human Resource Management.

HSBC Bangladesh operates in the country as a subsidiary of the global banking and financial services organization Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC).
