BSc. in EEE Program Secures 5-Year BAETE-IEB Accreditation

Published : 13 March 2024

The BSc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) program at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has received accreditation renewal for a remarkable five-year period from the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Education (BAETE) under the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Dhaka, making it the lengthiest term ever for an EEE program in Bangladesh.

The renewal, spanning from 2024 to 2029 under the latest BAETE Manual version 2.1, highlights the program's commitment to excellence in engineering education. IUB's EEE Department expresses gratitude to key contributors for their pivotal roles in the accreditation renewal process. Prof. M. Abdur Razzak, Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at IUB and Professor of the EEE Department, along with Prof. Feroz Ahmed, former Head of the EEE Department, Dr. Md. Kafiul Islam, Associate Professor, and Chair of the Program Self-Assessment Committee, and Mr. Nazmus Sakib, Research and Development Officer of the EEE Department, played vital roles in ensuring adherence to rigorous standards.

The renewal process, anchored by the Self-Assessment Report (SAR), meticulously evaluated the program across ten criteria, including Organization and Governance, Financial and Physical Resources, Faculty, Students, Academic Facilities, Curriculum, Teaching-Learning Process, Program Educational Objectives, Program Outcomes and Assessment, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Interaction with the Industry.

Aligned with the Washington Accord's Graduate Attributes, the program also upholds 12 Program Outcomes (POs) as stipulated by BAETE, spanning Cognitive, Psychomotor, and Affective domains, emphasizing graduates' abilities to tackle complex engineering problems. A three-member BAETE evaluation team conducted a comprehensive assessment during their visit at IUB campus from December 13-15, 2023, scrutinizing all aspects of the program to ensure alignment with accreditation standards.

This accreditation not only validates the program's dedication to high-quality standards but also enhances career prospects for EEE graduates, allowing them to apply for professional membership with IEB. Moreover, with BAETE's provisional signatory status with the Washington Accord since 2011 and Bangladesh's membership in NABEEA and representation in FEIAP since December 2009, this achievement reinforces Bangladesh's commitment to global engineering education standards and international collaboration.

As BAETE and IEB await the outcome of their application for permanent signatory status with the Washington Accord, the anticipation is for further recognition within the global engineering community, solidifying Bangladesh's leadership in engineering education and accreditation.
