Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) hosted the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter (IEEE CS BDC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Award Ceremony 2024 at the university’s Auditorium on January 27, 2024.

The AGM featured notable guests, including Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Mamun Bin Ibne Reaz, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SETS), IUB, and Special Guest Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, Dean of the ECE Faculty at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) and Chair of IEEE CS BDC 2023 Executive Committee. The occasion provided a platform for insightful discussions, recognition of contributions, and the official transition of leadership to the 2024 IEEE CS BDC Executive Committee led by Prof. Dr. Md Ahsan Habib, Department of ICT, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University.

Additionally, IEEE CS BDC and the Dean of SETS took the opportunity to congratulate Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) of IUB and Branch Counselor of IEEE IUB STUDENT BRANCH for being elected as the Vice-Chair (Technical) of the IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter 2024 Executive Committee, a testament to his strong technical expertise, research experience and long term commitment to IEEE CS BDC.

The Dean of SETS said, “I encourage all students to embark on research endeavors during their undergraduate years, and make the most of the numerous benefits that come with active participation in such prestigious organizations like IEEE IUB Student Branch. Engaging in research early on is crucial for personal and academic development, and being part of IEEE provides a unique platform for students to thrive and contribute to the field of engineering and technology."

Special Guest Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Arefin said, “The role of research and innovation culture in shaping the landscape of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), EEE, and allied fields is pivotal. I advocate the importance of building a strong research environment. Organizations like the IEEE Computer Society play a crucial role in advancing these dynamic fields. Actively participating in activities that contribute to the growth of these disciplines is key to the academic and professional journey.”

Prominent participants and guests included Dr. Saadia Binte Alam, Head of CSE and Advisor of IEEE Computer Society IUB Branch Chapter, along with Dr. Mahady Hasan, former Head of CSE and Advisor of IEEE Computer Society IUB Branch Chapter. Dr. Farhad Alam, Head of Physical Sciences, and Dr. Razib Hayat Khan, Assistant Professor, CSE at IUB, delivered a thought-provoking technical presentation on ‘Metaverse: The True Virtual World.’ An Award Ceremony followed recognizing outstanding individuals and chapters from various universities in Bangladesh across multiple categories.

This event was organized by IEEE IUB Student Branch and IEEE Computer Society IUB Branch Chapter, and additional support roles were played by IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group IUB Chapter, IEEE Power and Energy Society IUB Branch Chapter, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society IUB Branch Chapter, IEEE Photonics Society IUB Branch Chapter, IEEE Industry Applications Society IUB Branch Chapter and also student volunteers from the Physical Sciences Department of IUB. The Secretary of the IEEE CS BDC 2023 Executive Committee, Mr. Md Samin Rahman, was the Master of Ceremonies and conducted the event gracefully.
