EEE Department explores Quantum Insights in Webinar

Published : 21 January 2024

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), conducted a thought-provoking webinar on January 21, 2024, titled "Beyond Silicon: Pioneering Materials in Quantum Revolution." This collaborative effort by IEEE IUB Student Branch and IEEE IUB SBC Photonics Society delved into the frontier of Quantum Photonics.

Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Head of the EEE Department and Director of the IUB Photonics Simulation Laboratory (IUBPSL), spearheaded the event. Professor Dr. Mamun Bin Ibne Reaz, Dean of the School of Engineering, Technology & Sciences (SETS), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, delivering insights on the scientific research approach.

The keynote speaker, Mr. S. M. Nayeem Arefin, an esteemed alumnus of the Department of EEE and IUBPSL, currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA, shared his journey. Mr. Arefin delved into Quantum Photonics, discussing plasmonic metasurfaces and pioneering materials like Silicon Carbide, Perovskite, Hexagonal Boron Nitride, and Cesium Lead Bromide in quantum technology applications. Mr. Arefin delved into the core of the talk by presenting his current research on Quantum Photonics. His presentation covered the basic theory and mathematics of quantum photonics followed by a discussion on plasmonic metasurfaces and other innovative materials like Silicon Carbide, Perovskite, Hexagonal Boron Nitride and Cesium Lead Bromide as groundbreaking materials in quantum technology applications.

The event culminated with an interactive Q/A session, providing participants the opportunity to engage with Nayeem Arefin. In recognition of his contribution, a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to him. The organizers extend their gratitude to both Arefin and Professor Dr. Mamun Bin Ibne Reaz for their valuable contributions to the success of the webinar.
