Effectively shifting to a greener, climate-smarter economy will require ensuring those at risk in the transition - from unskilled workers to communities that rely on polluting and environmental hazardous industries - can find new jobs and aren't left behind. How is that happening around the world, and what are the risks when it's neglected? With these questions in mind, Thompson Reuters Foundation organized a virtual training programme for selected journalists of Bangladesh on ‘Analyzing Just Transition’ on Wednesday, 1 February 2023.

Mr. Ekhtekharul Islam and Mr. Saquib Ahmad Khan who are the faculty members of the Department of Environmental Science and Management, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) have delivered a talk on “Reporting on Just Transition: Climate Action, Inequality and Labour Rights”. In the talk, the speakers highlighted the grey areas where journalists can play a critical role to facilitate the just transition process in Bangladesh. Mr. Darren Schuettler from the Thompson Reuters Foundation introduced the guest speakers to the journalists. Ms. Kavita Kaur, South Asian Representative of the Thompson Reuters Foundation also participated as a panelist. The session ended with an extensive question answer session.
