IUB family reminisces 1971 sacrifices to commemorate Victory Day
On 20 December 2022, the Office of the Vice Chancellor and the IUB Library jointly organized an event titled “Ekattorer Atmatyag: Kichu Kotha”. The event took place at the Bangabandhu and Liberation War Corner of the library commemorating the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and martyrs and their families during the Great War of Liberation in 1971.
Freedom Fighter Mr. Didar A. Husain, Trustee of IUB, and Professor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, Vice Chancellor of IUB, shared their experiences from 1971. IUB Controller of Examinations Mr. Taposh Sarkar, Head of Admissions and Financial Aid Ms. Lima Chowdhury, and students Md. Sidul Amin Sifat and Eyaliduzzaman Shunucki, who are all family members of freedom fighters and martyred intellectuals, also shared their experiences and thoughts.
IUB Librarian Dr. Muhammad Hossam Haider Chowdhury gave an overview of the library and the history and thought behind the setting up of the Bangabandhu and Liberation War Corner. The event, an intimate gathering of IUB students, faculty and staff, was conducted by Prof. Dr. Zakir Hossain Raju, Head of IUB’s Department of Media and Communication.
The program ended with a recitation of his own poem by Mr. Kazi Din Muhammed, Deputy Director, Operations and Maintenance, IUB, and renditions of famous patriotic songs “Shob Kota Janala Khule Dao Na” and “Shei Rail Line er Dhare” by the IUB Music Club.
