IEEE IUB Student Branch observes IEEE DAY 2022
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers DAY 2022 was observed at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) at its Bashundhara Campus on Thursday, November 3, 2022. The day-long program started with an inauguration ceremony followed by two technical seminars, a poster presentation, a success story presentation, a Roborace, award giving, and cultural performances.
The IEEE DAY celebration began with the cutting of a cake. Dr. Feroz Ahmed, Professor & Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, IUB, welcomed the inaugural gathering. Dr. Mahady Hasan, Interim Dean of School of Engineering Technology and Sciences (ETS), IUB, spoke on behalf of the school. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Md. Kafiul Islam, Counselor of IEEE IUB Student Branch. Prof. M. Abdur Razzak, Mentor of IEEE IUB Student Branch, Prof. Khosru M. Salim, Prof. Shahriar Khan, and Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury were also present at the program among other SETS faculty members.
Prof. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, former Dean, SETS, delivered a presentation on the proposed Graduate Readiness for Internship Placement (GRIP) program for Industry-Academia Collaboration.
The IEEE Industry Applications Society IUB SBC organized two back-to-back technical seminars where industry experts covered the wide spectrum of Electrical and Electronic Engineering applications from different industries such as Power and Energy, and Integrated Circuits.
The first seminar on "Prospects of Power and Energy Sector in Bangladesh'' was given by Engr. Quazi Nafeez Mosharraf, AGM, Private Sales, Energypac Engineering Ltd. The second seminar on "Integrated Circuits: History and Evolution" was given by Mr. Mehedi Hassan, Senior Member of Technical Staff, Texas Instruments.
Presentations of posters and success stories, and a Roborace competition were also held. The roborace was organized by IEEE RAS IUB SBC with technical support from FabLab, IUB. Many students from SETS participated in the competition with great enthusiasm.
In the evening, students from the EEE and CSE departments along with members of the IUB Dance Club and IUB Music Club performed in a colorful cultural show. Finally, Dr. Md. Kafiul Islam, Associate Professor of EEE and Counselor of IEEE IUB Student Branch gave away the prizes among the volunteers and winners of different competitions.
The IEEE DAY 2022 was jointly organized by the IEEE IUB Student Branch, IEEE IAS IUB SB Chapter, IEEE WIE IUB SB Affinity Group and IEEE RAS IUB SB Chapter in collaboration with the EEE Department. A total of more than 200 students and faculty members participated in this day-long event.
IEEE Day commemorates the anniversary of the first time IEEE members gathered to share their technical ideas in 1884. Worldwide celebrations demonstrate the ways thousands of IEEE members in local communities join together to collaborate on ideas that leverage technology for a better tomorrow. IEEE Day is celebrated on the first Tuesday of October every year.
