Prof. Dr. Saleemul Huq receives National Environment Award 2020

Renowned climate scientist Dr. Saleemul Huq OBE, Director of IUB’s International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and Professor at the Department of Environmental Science and Management, has received the National Environment Award 2020.

He got the nomination for this prestigious recognition in 2021 and finally received the award on June 5, 2022. The award comprises a 22-carat gold crest, a cheque for BDT 50,000 and a certificate. Let us congratulate Prof. Dr. Saleemul Huq on this momentous occasion.

The decision for this award was taken at a virtual meeting of the relevant national committee in February 2021. Dr. Huq has received the award in the environmental education and publicity category.

"I thank the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh for giving me this prestigious award. Such recognitions always inspire me to keep fighting for our planet. We all know it is a journey that is far from over and we need concerted efforts from all quarters of the society to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” said Prof. Dr. Huq.

In 2022, Prof. Dr. Huq received the prestigious Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) recognition from the British government and an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the Northumbria University, UK, for his outstanding leadership in the global fight against climate change.
