IUB recognizes students' contributions throughout Pandemic in Spring Communion 2022


Independent University, Bangladesh hosted its second Spring Communion, organized by the Department of Media and Communication, on Wednesday, 30th of March, to recognize the achievements of their most diligent and talented students and celebrate togetherness with the students, faculties, and alumni of the department.
The event started at 1:00 pm, at the IUB Auditorium, and was inaugurated by Ms. Raisa Rasheeka, Head-in-charge of the Department of Media and Communication, where she welcomed the students to the communion and introduced the department to them. This was followed by a heartwarming speech from Prof. Taiabur Rahman, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, where he expressed his appreciation towards the department and shared words of wisdom to inspire the students. After the opening speeches were made, a prize-giving ceremony was held, where four students were awarded in distinct categories such as 'Highest CGPA of Graduating Students', 'Industry Activity', 'All-Rounder', and 'Special Recognition', as acknowledgment for their remarkable accomplishments and contributions in academics and the industry. In addition, special awards were handed out to 55 students from the Department of Media and Communication, who, prior to this event, represented IUB and Bangladesh at the Global News Stream, which was organized by the Oslo Metropolitan University, and showcased their exceptional journalistic abilities by presenting different kinds of news reports, feature stories, documentaries, as well as photographs that highlight the various aspects of environmental and climate issues affecting the world.
Following the prize-giving ceremonies, a panel discussion was held with four alumni of the department and was moderated by Ms. Raisa Rasheeka. The alumni hailed from their respective streams of the subject and talked about the relevance of their degrees in relation to their occupation and the job market, as well as how the Department of Media and Communication played a vital role in them achieving their goals. They also provided valuable insights to the current batch of students regarding the state of the industry, as well as advice on how they may prosper as future alumni of the department.
Throughout the event, several performances were held by notable clubs under the Department of Media and Communication, in which a stage drama was presented by the IUB Theatre Club which showcased a drama, as well as a dance number by IUB K-club, where students gave an exhilarating performance on various Korean pop songs. The event ended with a photo session of all faculties, awardees, and alumni on stage, followed by a film screening.
